Neat blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it from somewhere?
A design like yours with a few simple tweeks would really make my blog
shine. Please let me know where you got your design.
Thanks a lot
Peter and I were just discussing the naturalism of Roman paintings…and mosaics, so fresh, so beautiful and so blooming sophisticated.
Does anyone know how the top two (very similar) mosaics relate to each other please? I have seen both described as having come from the House of the Faun, but one is now in the National Museum in Rome and the other is in a museum in Naples. Is it true that they both came from Pompeii originally, and were they really both in the House of the Faun? They’re so similar it is fascinating.
It’s fantastic…
The Bardo mosaic was unknown to me when I gathered photos for the 1999 book, ‘The Domestic cat in Roman Civilization;’ Hopefully it may yet appear in publications. The cat’s posture and its face are fascinating features of this “portrait”!
What an astonishing collection of pictures! My congratulations to your blog.
