wonderful but decaying mausoleum somewhere in the middle of the vast Chinese cemetery. The mosaics on the outside are wonderful, but with the way the place is being neglected, who knows how long they’ll last. Philippines, Manilla
…reminds me of one of Sandy Robertson’s fabulous mosaics!

Mosaic Face, originally uploaded by Paul Livingstone.
“Tunisia has the finest collection of mosaics in the world and the majority of these can be seen at the Bardo Museum. This Moorish palace in the suburbs of Tunis was ,at one time, the residence of Tunisia’s Beys (kings), and besides housing the fabulous exposition of mosaics, it contains an important collection of Prehistoric, Roman, Punic and Islamic artifacts.
Classified by region, Sousse, Carthage, Dougga, Bulla Regia the mosaics date mostly from the 3rd and 4th century - their golden age. Of particular interest is the unique portrait of Virgil, and in the Sousse Room, the Triumph of Neptune, one of the largest in existence.
Realistic scenes of hunting, a panorama of mythological gods and goddesses, exquisite still lifes of fish and games, the legendary Hercules and the adventurous Odysseus are portrayed with astonishing mastery of form and color. What marvelous skill it was of these unknown artists who used tiny chips of stone to create such beauty!” excerpt from http://www.tourismtunisia.com/culture/mosaics.html for more mosaic images from tunisia check out http://www.tunisiaonline.com/mosaics/index.html

Guardian of Wat Phra Kaew, originally uploaded by MichiganCliffy.
Wat Phra Kaew, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, and the adjoining Grand Palace together are the biggest tourist attraction in Bangkok. It consists of over 100 brightly colored buildings, golden spires and glittering mosaics, and dates back to 1782, when Bangkok was founded.
Wat Phra Kaew itself, generally known to the Thais as Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram, is Thailand’s most important and sacred temple. It houses the tiny Emerald Buddha, which is located high above the heads of the worshippers and tourists. Not much is known for certain about the statue, except that it isn’t actually made of emerald but rather of green jade or jasper.
It’s thought to have been made in the 15th century and was the cause of several wars before ending up for good in Bangkok in 1782. The image is considered a talisman and holds tremendous significance for Thailand and the Thais. The ‘robe’ that it wears is changed 3 times each year by the King himself, at the start of each season: A diamond encrusted gold robe during the hot season, a solid gold robe in the cool season and a gilded monk’s robe in the rainy season. There are also many other Buddha images inside the temple.

Magic Garden Disclaimer, originally uploaded by lil’bear.
There are no words to describe the sheer wonder of the “Magic Garden” on South Street. We wandered through the walkways, passages, into the basement, through a maze of mosaic sculpture and art awestruck at the sheer scope, scale, and beauty of this public art installation.
